To every Veteran who has chosen to trust SOS, and to every supporter and donor who supports the US Patriot Fund,THANK YOU.
Without your support, none of this could be possible.
Brother is a native New Yorker. Brooklyn, to be exact.
What he’s seen and done in the name of culture in America is remarkable.
He calls one day, I can’t take the call. He proceeds to blow up my phone via “911. 911.”
So, now I’m a little concerned. I mean, if HE was dying, he’d not be calling or texting me. Could something be wrong with my nephew?
I apologize and end my call and call him.
You remember that feeling you got when you were 6 or 7 during the Christmas season? THAT was his level
of enthusiasm when he picked up.
“OMG. OMG. OMG!”
I’m all, “Becky. Calm down. What’s up?”
“Ok, ok.” Takes a breath. “You’re never gonna believe this.”
I’m, “OKkkkkayyyy.”
He continued. “I heard what you said when you said, THINK BIGGER. The universe will show you a way. So
I did.”
Me, “Uh huh.”
He rambles further, “I started looking around for something bigger for us in the area, and I was asking myself so many questions about what could we do and I was thinking about…”
“OMG!”, I spout. “Spit it out!”
“The New York International Auto Show!” he exclaims.
I frown. “What about it?”
“We’re going!”
Me. “Uhhhhh, THAT was the big 911?”
He beams, “The promoters asked if the US Patriot Fund would be interested in a complimentary space during the entire
event!”
I’m say to myself, “Another car show. Awesome.”
Then I say it out loud. It was like throwing a wet blanket on a campfire.
He was miffed, but not deterred.
“You have to get out here in two weeks so we can do this!”
I respond, ignorantly apparently, “It’s just another car show.” (That very sentence would serve to be the new
basis of responses to me whenever I casually dismiss something I feel is less than spectacular. Mark my words.)
Well, I went.
And it was, you HAVE to see it to believe it. It was Disneyland for adults. Proclaiming it as “sensory overload” doesn’t do it justice.
Here’s how it measures up…
Largest auto after market show in the world, SEMA.
Largest firearms market show in the world, SHOT SHOW.
Largest construction after market show in the world, WORLD OF CONCRETE.
You get the picture.
The exposure to the industry as a whole coupled with the caliber of attendee was well worth it all.
New alliances were forged.
New connections were made.
New ideas and proposals for future events were initiated.
The foundation gained greater recognition than ever imaginable.
All because of us attending “Just another car show.”
Special THANK YOU to the management of the event goes to Diane, Laura, Mike and Don.
Without their graciousness and guidance, we would have been lost in the crowd.
See you all next year!
